Default Microsoft anti spyware app

Contradiction in terms I know , but it does exist

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Some 'interesting' options on the download screen ... you can get it whether you install the activeX control or not though.

Seems to be pretty good - found a trojan that adaware / avg 7 / webroot had missed. It's apparently a rebadged GIANT anti-spyware product that M$ have purchased.

Tis indeed an interesting one, although I'm not sure that I want to download it??

Reference the non active X option - this I have found this week with other downloads from MS.

I've given it a go and it hasn't found anything! Doesn't take long to run either - so I wonder how big the database is? I am running Mozilla Firefox, though

Didn't find anything on mine either... Although I've been fairly clear since I stopped using Kazaa a while back!

You don't need one as you can do it without , just click the download button & select no to validation key.

Strange thing to admit on apublic forum - especially this one (wait for it!!).

Anyways, as has been stated you can by-pass the 'is my windows legitimate' and download anyways. This appears to be the same now with XP security updates as well....

My key came up as invalid! It's our corporate key as well. I went on to download without validation then used the antispyware to block the validation tool

I'm impressed, it found 10 items that ad-aware had missed.

That'll teach them, the pesky back door invading little ****es.

Exclamation

You gotta laugh!!!

The way that 99% of spyware is propagated is via executables that are in e-mails or automatically downloaded from web-sites (possibly being invisibly installed due to holes in Internet Exploder).

So what do MicroShaft do to prevent this?

Yup, ask you to download and run a couple of executables.

They should simply code GenuineCheck.exe et al to delete your hard drive and display a message saying "If you are dumb enough to run this program then you don't deserve to have a computer"

Hello

I actually have a valid version (for a change) which is why I am surprised at the message.

Classic - It detected that MS Messenger was running and warned me how dangerous it was and suggested that I stop it
