sony vaio laptop packed in. any ideas?
Iv got a Sony Vaio laptop. All of a sudden its just stopped working. Basically it powers on, but nothing comes on the screen at all. Usually it boots with a vaio animation, but nothing. You hear the initial HDD clicking for a second or 2, then thats it, all you can hear is the fan, and the green power light is flashing when on battery and constant when the AC is plugged in. the HDD isnt active as normal. i.e doesnt boot!!
Iv tried reseating all the components inside, and have let the battery completely discharge for a week or so and no change.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

It could be a number of things as its not even reaching the bios splash screen. Are there any beeps when it turns on? Make sure the memory is seated correctly. If it is and it still wont boot you really need to get it to a repair shop to look at, could well be the motherboard has failed. Has the laptop ever been dropped or had a drink spilled on it etc, things that corporate laptops suffer all the time!

Agree with the suggestions given above...
In light of the fact that you don't even see a splash screen, i'm inclined to think that the lack of HD activity could be a bit of a red-herring. It sounds like some sort of primary hardware failure - RAM, Mobo or Processor are the obvious choices.
Does the screen even give a flash? You may also want to check that the screen hasn't failed by connecting it to an external monitor. Unlikely given the other information yhou've given but worth a shot...

hi, thanks for the replies!
as far as im awair it hasnt been dropped or anything, although my 18 year old sister was the last person to use it so anything is possible!
The ram is inbuilt, 128mb and it has one additional slot which is unused.
External monitor doesnt work.
No beeps, no flash of the screen, no nothing other than the hard drive and fan both switching on!
I personally thing the mobo or cpu has gone as well, but I was wondering if maybe anyone knew of any common problems or anything.
I'v bought a new laptop today, so eBay it is
cheers

have you taken the battery out and switched it on with ac power.
not being funny, but my 16" vaio laptop sometimes does this (flicky power lights and that's it. no power on/boot/etc).
