ok you guys answered my question the other day re gigabyte lan cards. i currently have 2 computers in close proximity to one another.i have gigabit lan ports in both (2xgigabit in one and 1xgigabit, 1x10/100 in the other) i connect both machines to the internet using a 10/100 netgear router and that i have no problem with. i am also using a xover cable to connect the 2 gigabit ports on either computer. my problem is that when i want to transfer e.g a ripped dvd it seems to default to the 10/100 connection and not the gigabit xover connection. anybody any idea how i can get these machines to use the faster connection when transferring files only. using xp pro BTW on both machines.

cheers
