Its my girlfriends birthday next month and shes mentioned a PSP, i have pushed for one for obvious reasons now..

Where can i buy one from asap?

Will they be the same as UK models? ie Region, games etc?

what exactly can you do with them apart from the gameplay side of things?

Other than games I'm using mine to show my holiday pictures and as a back up to my iPod battery running out, playing music from a game rather than the memory stick.

It's also great for waving in front of peeple faces going "Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah Nah."

Alright Andy!!
I'm getting mine in the next day or so via Jack Clarks friend Neil who lives in Japan. If you're in a rush have a look at www.clarkesimports.com - I spoke to this guy on Saturday about PSP games and basically he has quite a few in stock that's he's had in from Japan. He also has several consoles in which he wants £199 for or £210 including one game (which is a pretty good price really)
You should be able to collect too as he's only in Wrexham (M56,M53 then A483) or I'm sure he can send out as he's advertising them on Ebay.
The numbers I have from his website are 01978 841801 or 07921 483250

Good luck

There's no region coding on the games unlike the PS2's.The advantage of the Jap ones is that they are PAL so once the PSP's are launched in the UK you will be able to play the off the shelf movies that you can buy in the shops here whereas if you'd have bought a US market PSP,you wouldn't (Although perhaps it's only a matter of time before a modification comes along to correct this!)

You can also upload your own movies to the PSP to watch.A Memory stick duo pro is needed.I'm going for a 1gb version once I can find somewhere that actually has stock of them!!

Jack is the guy to speak to above if you want one via his friend in Japan (Neil is a really nice guy who I spoke to a couple of times this week before ordering mine!!)

PS:

Get yourself a copy of "The Official Playstation 2 Magazine" (April edition) as it has 31 reasons why you should buy a PSP.The mag is £6 which isn't cheap but worth it just for the review of the PSP

Clarkes imports have em in stock cos I phoned him re games plus the consoles are from Japan so they should be fine for you.If you have the time to drive across to Wrexham, then you might get hold of one before mine gets here from Japan.

Good luck

That's bloody cheap! About £195 once you've paid tax and bought a game.
