GT4 knackered my Memory stick !

GT4 knackered my Memory stick !
Okay, I have a 1Gb USB memory stick I put in my PS2 to download my photo's off of GT4.
Worked first time okay, but then I tried it another evening and now when I put the memory stick in my PC it says I need to reformat it
Problem is there was lots of other stuff I had backed up onto the memory stick, am I knackered ? Or can I get the data back somehow ?
