Linksys WAG54G connection help
Ok, I am a bit new to the wireless routine so please be gentle.
Setting up a Linksys WAG54G with the main PC on the ethernet cable and a Sony VAIO on a usb dongle.
A few unhappy online chats with support and a final phone call to them got the main PC online.
Unfortunately, didn't have time to set up the VAIO via the usb tonight.
Linksys support suggested I remove the software supplied and did it through XP's own wireless software.
Here's what I need so I can be ecstatic:
1: What is the best way (step by step) to get the VAIO to be online
2: Is is possible (step by step) to get the ethernet based main PC and the VAIO to connect to each other?
Thanks in advance

Step 1
Take the Linksys WAG54G back - its a pile of ****. You'll get lots of dropped connections
Step 2
Buy Draytek Vigor 2600G for rock solid reliability
Don't mean to be a pain, but you'll save yourself lots of heart ache. Saying that there's always the 10% of the WAG54G owners who seem happy with theirs. I know 4 people who bought them (including me) when wireless first came out. All of them have ditched them now.

Mate of mine has owned a wag54 for nearly a year and have had no problems and saying only 10% is a bit daft especially out of 7 i know of being used by friends and work colleagues only one has gone **** up and that was replaced under warranty.
BTW before you ask i own a Draytek also which i bought from broadbandbuyer,i think it was £160 and find it nearly rock solid, but i have had a couple of dropped connections recently which i'm still working out whats caused it?.Even with the odd drops i still think its a good piece of kit.

Just speaking from personal experience.
On a positive note, there's a multitude of posts on Scoobynet by people with problems with their own WAG54G units - so at least you have a head start when a problem crops up ;-)

Mine's as stable as a nervous jelly, but I've now plugged the old adsl modem back in and it's the same. So I'm thinking I have a poor SNR and just crap quality line, bit long from the exchange aswell.
Oh well, looks like I'm gonna have to fork out an a Draytek 2600 But means the WAG54G wasn't the problem in my setup either.

I bought a WAG54G myself for home. LinkSys have just swapped it for a v2 as it kept going into a reboot cycle. The wireless was as stable as, well, something very unstable. Each new firmware would add a new feature, break an existing one and ignore an old bug.
I've also had a number of WAG54Gs at work for use at customer sites and for internal eval. Even using purely cabled clients and VPN tunnel termination, stability is not impressive. It's certainly not a patch on something like a SpeedTouch 510 v4 (which I'm currently using at home and that's been up for 34 days now).
My understanding is that the v1 doesn't have enough flash memory built into it for a "good" firmware build. The v2 [1] has more memory and uses a Linux based core. That opens the posibility of getting a 3rd party firmware build for it (the Sveasoft web site mentions a build for a WAG54G in the future).
[1] If the outer box mentions ADSL2+, it's a v2. The web interface is also marked v2 in the top RH corner.
