Talking Connection speed

How do you check the speed of your internet connection. I have 1 mbs and thinking of going to 2 for downloading quicker. Cannot find outhow to test whether my line or the box of tricks in the street (forgot wot you call 'em) can handle it.

Cheers

Roo

Depends really on who you ISP is, though most broadband accounts will easily be upgradable to 2 meg. It all done at their end as they just de-restrict the amount of bandwidth on your account. You can get online bandwidth testers (do a search on google for one) that will allow you to determine whether your current connection is as good as they say it is.

Other than that, their shouldnt be any problems upgrading, apart from the obvious cost difference. Best broadband offer i have seen lately is UK Online who are offering 8meg DL/400K UL for around 35 quid.
