Default BT Broadband 2mb upgrade woes

So how many people like me received the email from BT saying they would be upgraded foc from 1mb to 2mb broadband and when it came to the crunch they received the following email:

Dear Mr Adams,

I wrote to you recently about upgrading our broadband lines to 2Mb.

I am very sorry to say that your line cannot support a 2Mb broadband service and so we're unable to provide this faster speed to you. We do, however, expect this situation to improve as we're always seeking to provide you with the best possible speed available on your line.

I knew it was too good to be true BUT what can we do about it now though apart wait for the muppets to send me another email in 12 months time saying they're gonna try again to upgrade me?

I'm assuming that it could be a number of things that could affect why I can't get 2mb such as being too far from the exchange or too much noise on the line etc....
Has anybody spoken to BT to try and find an answer or is there anything that can be done to at least get them to make some more tests.I've called BT but get passed from pillar to post and no ****** knows what they're talking about and can't give me technical reasons why I can't have this service...
I live in a house that's now been built for approximately 5-6 years so I expect the phone line to be of reasonable quality!!

Anyone else had any joy with BT?

Cheers

Nick

What does the availability checker say for your number? Does that think 2Mbps is possible?

Availability checker means didly swat, my number said I could could only receive upto 1Mb and I couldn't get 2Mb. Funny that I've been upgraded to 2Mbs for the past month!

It says that I might be able to receive 1mb which I've actually been using since September last year lol
Says that I cannot receive 2mb though but no real reason why!!
