w2k3 server and terminal services licensing problem
Just upgraded a client's network from w2k to w2k3. Client runs a boat of apps under TS that used to be on the w2k box. Now TS is on w2k3 with all the licensing woes attached. Anyhoo, installed and activated the licensing server and 10 device TSCALS. Problem I have is that after 8 successful machine logins I can nolonger attach a new devie to TS. The licensing manager reports 2 CALs free so what's going on? Anyone any idea how ot fix this? The PCs that won't attach are 98 and XP PCs.
Is there a way of reclaiming allocated CALs? A device that attahced for testiing purposes is no longer needed but I need the CAL.
Aside from that this client is trying and, at the moment, failing to run QuickBooks 2004 Premium under TS. Again, anyone know how to sort this?
<rant>
And another thing This client has a win95 PC that refuses point blank to login to the domain. Anyone got a fix for this (apart from hoying the f'in thing out of the window)? TS works fine though
</rant>
TIA
Mark

There is a registery key on the client in
(from memory)
HKLM\software\Microsoft\MSLICENSING
Just delete the "mslicensing" folder - this will clear the client of any historic keys it's holding.
To relcaim the CAL's unfortunately you need to ring MS to get them to remove / re-add them for you. It's a bit buggy. If you ask them nicey there is a little app which allows you to do it your self.
Win9x box, leave domain and go back onto workgroup.
- go into ADUC on the server and add the machine into the domain
- on win9x box re-join domain
