Unhappy Dlink wireless router and NTL broadband

Anyone else tried to set this up? Have a D-link DSL-G604T wireless router. Am not having a lot of luck getting the router to connect to NTL...

have you cloned the MAC address from the NTL registered PC?

No, I guessed this might be where things were falling over.. How do I do that?

go to DOS prompt and type ipconfig/all

write down the physical ip address and then write it into the WAN mac address

you should be able to do it from the router also.

goto the setup screen of the router (usually a web page) and look at the connected clients screen, take a note of your PC's (the one registered with NTL) MAC address.

then on the WAN setup page of your router should be its MAC address replace this with the one from your PC. might even be a 'clone address' button there you may be able to just click that.

I didn't think NTL allowed static addresses, I was under the impression it had to be DHCP to work????

When set-up your router will get a dynamic address from NTL, and if you set your router to be DHCP then your PC can still be DHCP or you can your PC to have a static address to the router its upto you.

but yes you are right if comnnecting your pc directly to NTL then it is DHCP.

plus your not copying the IP address your copying the MAC address which will be static for your computers Network card anyway, this is what NTL register at their end when you add a computer on their start pages.

Hi

I was told that mine should clone the mac address,but it didnt, but it would work when I fed the mac address in manually
