Default Restoring .dbx files (email)

As you may have read i've gone from WinME to win2K.I saved my emails as .dbx files but am struggling to find the .dbx folder in win2k to restore them to.(in ME to restore you just copy and paste into the appropriate folder)

...or does win 2K have pst files?

DBX is Outlook Express, PST (and others) is Outlook.

To find the store folder Outlook Express is using, load it, click on Tools, Maintenance and the Store Folder button. I would expect it to be inside \Documents and Setting\%Username%\

There is a porgram I have used in the past called dbx viewer, can you still view them?

Did you export them or just save them?

You can just copy the files across - certainly I did this from a Win2K to an XP machine, both were runnning OE/IE6 though. You should be able to import them also but all I did was copy all the old .dbx files into the approriate directory which will be something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\**USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{F829C281-A79D-4034-86C6-0FF290663427}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

This is a HIDDEN folder so you will need to change your folder options to allow viewing hidden files/folders. Also the details between the {} may be different (there's usually only one folder there anyway).

The NTFS/Fat32 will make no difference as that is how it is "physically" written to disk, not the file format.

If that doesn't work, try copying the old .dbx files to anywhere convenient and use the import function in OE.

Daz,i saved them as .dbx files after compacting.

Trashman, thats what i.ve done before, just copy and paste them into the new directory, for some reason it didnt work.

Anyway,i've used a recovery prog, but what a lot of hassle!!!!

cheers.
