not impressed with gt4
got the game at the weekend and it has to be said its not much of a leap from gt3. when you are driving the cars they look all jagged. pg2 cars are a lot smoother. imho i think pgr2 graffics are of a better quality but i dont know how they do but even though with all those glitches (on the cars and the background) it still seems to look better overall.
also cant get used to losing it into a wall and just bounce off with no damage. its got to be said i thought we had lost that years ago.
and no tyre marks on the road even doing a burnout.
dont get me wrong i like the game. but personally i though gt4 would kick forza motorsport's ***. now i'm not too sure.

I think the visuals are ok. It's the handling thats let me down. In GT3 the handling is just about spot on, it just needed a little polishing up. But in the new GT4 the cars are just about impossible to control once they start to slide. Tank slapper anyone? It's maybe more suited to the steering wheel that i don't have.

I've found that it the graphics differ hugely dependant on what type of screen you are using. My sony widescreen (a few years old) makes the game look quite pixelated. However, plug the ps2 into a high quality 15" crt monitor with rgb connections and the picture quality is crystal.

I`m still using the dual shock 2, until DFP turns up, conned the missus into thinking she needed one to improve the at the game . And have no problems with tank slappers quite easy to control. But this could be because I have spent many hours on gt3 using 1000hp + mid and rear engined cars with super hard race slicks.

Errrr what 'driving' game on the xbox even comes close to GT4 for overall depth, handling and realism !!!!! Even Forzas promise of being a GT4 beater looks set to be a load of bull, unless they have done some drastic changes to the shocking control/handling..
When are people going to realise there is more to a game than just pretty graphics..

To me the handling seems superb - it's much easier for even a numptie like me to tell the difference between cars. Turning off traction control etc is also rather fun.
I am still unequivocally poo at the game , but oh yes I will master it

I have both PS2 and XBox and loved GT3.
I shan't be buying GT4, however much I love driving games. Why?
Because
- it's not that different from GT3 from what I've seen in the reviews - and I was disappointed GT3 didn't add much to GT2. Yes the graphics might be slightly better, yes you get different (more?) cars, yes I'm sure there are some new tracks and the like. But it's pretty much the same game, person vs computer controlled cars. whoo.
- No damage - WTF?
- Still has invisible barriers that stop the car dead - mmm
- BUT, worst of all, no online version vs other people
GT2 is flawed in many ways but what makes it such fun is the online racing. GT4 has missed a trick here. I can't be arsed spending x hours doing another bloody marathon race which you've either won or lost in the first 10 laps.

I think the graphics are superb, certainly no jagged lines on my setup.
I have Xbox and PS2, and although the Xbox graphics are smoother, i find them a bit "cartoony". The cars in PGR2 never look that real, whereas GT4 cars are superb.
The handling is spot on - I agree with Jacko, if you cant handle the cars, learn to drive. You do get tank slappers when pushing on, but that happens in real life, especially in the 205
Its a great game - doesnt seem like much of a step up from GT3, but once you delve into it and see the small details it is excellent.
And FFS, its £29.99, less than a night on the booze.
And finally, I am still using the DS2 controller for now, and have no problems.

Last point - no online racing, so what???
I subscribed to Xbox Live last year for TRD2, and all I got when racing was a load of cheating Aussie/American kids pushing each other off the track and shouting "leet" and "owned".
Had a few good races with Twigster, but in general online racing is just full of people trying to cheat their way to the finish line.

Thanks for the compliment!!! That is the main reason for the friends sytem on xbox though, to avoid the muppets!! That said, I still think GT4 is a game that xbox live would have turned into the best game ever made!

Have to agree on the PGR2 online issue, with the addition of the fact there are a lot of what sound like middle aged 'Essex Geysers' who swear a lot, hence I am banned from live during the day while the kids are around, dont want them hearing 'faaarkinnn ell, you caaaahnnt'
Also most of the races are just Enzo Banger races, very annoying so I gave up.

I've held off buying GT4 as I'm enjoying online too much on Toca2...
There are plenty of "adult" (not not like that!) gaming forums out there where there are organised games, and you soon build up a buddy list of people that you can race without tons of swearing and banger races.

I've got both, saves on arguments and is best of both worlds - both machines have pros and cons.
Happily the PS2 Pros are the games, Xbox slightly better graphics. I prefer gameplay.

In my place we have 2xPS2, 2xPCs, Xbox, Gamecube, Gameboy DS and SP.... and a Amiga CD32
So I do have a fair exposure to games here, so back on topic I have to say I am indeed impressed by GT4. Although I have only dipped my toes in so far (only got 1st two licenses and done a couple of the easy cups) I think handling and playability are better than PGR2. I can see your point about the graphics not looking much better than GT3 as they dont if you just give them a quick glance (which says a bucketload about GT3 as its 4years old now and still looks great). I dont think people are going to be truly happy until there is an update to Ferrari F355 from the Dreamcast (F430? ) as that was as close to a true car sim as anybody has got to on a console yet.
