Default phpbb forum problem :-/

Hopefully you guys can help me figure this out

It started with a problem on my forum.

Posted replies were taking an age to submit and followed by Page Cannot Be Displayed.

The new posts were never posted but clicking on post reply again then scrolling below the text reply box, the new posts were visible but posted 3 times.

The problem caught the attention of my hosting company and they sent me this email...

"Today at around 1:10pm and also earlier this week your forum software
has caused problems for other users due to its opening and locking of
mysql connections.

We must advise that you do not repeat this as we will have no choice
but to suspend your access to mySQL, as your actions are causing
problems for other users.

Please confirm that you have dealt with his problem."

I sent an email asking them exactly what the problem was.

"Hello,

Thankyou for your e-mail.

The phpBB was causing a lot of blocked queries which were filling our
connection pool."

I upgraded the sessions.php file manually from www.phpbb.com but apparantely it didnt solve the problem :-/

"Hello

Unfortunately, following our email of last week your site once again
began locking mySQL connections last night.

We therefore have no choice but to suspend access until we are sure you
have found the fault and resolved it. We need to take enforcement
action on any site which is shows to be causing problems for other
sites, and whilst we apologise for the inconvenience I'm sure you
understand."

I have since found there was an exploit available on version 2.0.11 of phpbb and upgraded to 2.0.13 but today the problems are occuring again.

Ive asked on www.phpbb.com for help but it seems they cant handle the amount of queries/questions on their software. So im relying on old faithful "SN" for help on this.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but im hoping someone will have knowledge of whats causing this problem.

Cheers in advance

Exclamation

Boro,

i believe that the pre-.11 exploit allowed crackers to gain Admin rights, so as well as upgrading phpBB you might want to check any other parts of your web-site to make sure that they have not left any further holes.

How did you upgrade??

We had a problem similar to this when we used phpbb for 5ive-o. It was down to our host not being able to cope, rather than the software being a problem.

We moved to phpwebhosting in the US and the problems were gone

Hi Boomer

I upgraded the "changed files" via ftp from 2.0.11 to 2.0.13.

BuRR, im starting to think along the same lines. Im currently using Netweaver, who although, are prompt in replying to my emails, they seem a little unhelpful.

Any further comments would be appreciated, especially from forum admins/netweaver forum users.

Cheers

Boro
