NTL to up broadband speeds??
I remember this was mentioned a while back. The rumour was that the standard 750K service was to be upped to 2Mbs, with no price increase (similar increases for the other services too).
Has anyone heard anymore about this? Can't see any info on their website or the NTHell forum. My 750K package, although very reliable and quick is starting to look expensive at £24.99 a month, when you can get 1 Mb DSL for about £16... I won't bother changing if they are going to up the speeds.

We have been informed by a reliable source for NTL information that from the 14th March 2005. NTL will increase the speeds on their BB packages without the admin charge. Cableforum has posted the news today and they are very reliable with their information about NTL.
In addition, ntl appear to have changed their tune from the earlier reports in regards to the Admin charge. The following now appears to be true.
• Speed increase from 750k to 2Meg————FREE
• Speed increase from 1.5Meg to 3Meg——- FREE
• Speed increase from 300K to 1Meg———- See Below
The existing 300K customers will be given the option to upgrade to the 1Meg. However on doing so the monthly cap will reduced from 30GB to 3GB. Some customers may prefer the 300K service with 30GB monthly usage allowance.
... and now for the speed and Cap information
• Broadband enabled STB
1Meg Download——- 100k Upload …. 3 Gig Monthly Cap
2Meg Download——- 200k Upload …. 30 Gig Monthly Cap
3Meg Download——- 300k Upload …. 40 Gig Monthly Cap
• SACM
1Meg Download——- 100k Upload …. 3 Gig Monthly Cap
2Meg Download——- 200k Upload …. 30 Gig Monthly Cap
3Meg Download——- 300k Upload …. 40 Gig Monthly Cap
• Business
2Meg Download——- 250k Upload
3Meg Download——- 300k Upload
It’s understood that if you exceed the Cap limit, the BB connection would be dropped to 56k, although this isn’t confirmed.
This sounds like good news for all and with the reliable information from Cableforum we can perhaps see this as the way NTL are moving forward.

I'm in the same boat Chris. NTL has provided fantastic service for me, but seeing bigger numbers elsewhere makes changing very tempting.
I can't find anything official, just the info in the link below.

Pipex have just announced that we'll be getting a free upgrade to 1mb with no monthly cap in the spring/summer although we've just paid a one-off upgrade fee of £14.95 to do it now as we're impatient
