Default Wireless NIC works on one machine but not the other?

As title finally got my Linksys Wireless-G PCI card working on my old desktop PC using Win2k. I have just done a fresh install of Win2k on my newer tower PC and it will not connect to the router, all the settings are the same as on my desktop. Anyone any ideas as to what might be causing this, could it be a conflict on the newer PC of some kind? I have tried all the PCI slots and get the same apart from the bottom PCI slot that crashes the PC (does the same with my sound card, just pressumed it to be a dud slot). Do I need a new mother board?
Looks like XP may not have been the problem in the first place.
