Question Laptop repair question

For the last 2 or 3 years my laptop has been in the loft because the power socket on the back of the laptop has broken away from the motherboard (i think) its cracked anyway. So with no way of charging it its been unusable. What i wondered was can it be fixed? Has anyone else had this problem or is the only solution a new motherboard which someone suggested to me ages ago?

Thanks

It could be a simple soldering job for someone who knows what they're doing. Not sure how much good being in the loft will have done it though!
