Default Xp3000+ FSB333 instalation?

Hi everyone.

I just installed the above CPU on my Asus A7N8X - Deluxe (V1) - installed it - aok and set to 166 this in BIOS.

This is what it says on system properties:

Unknown CPU Type.
2.17Ghz

Right speed, does it matter that it doesn't recognise the CPU?

Cheers,

Nick

Have you checked for an updated BIOS?

Nope, I normally work on the basis of 'if it's not broken don't fix them'.

Doesn't updating bios involve a floppy drive? I haven't got one!

In answer to the original question: no, as long as the CPU is running at the right speed, it doesn't matter what BIOS calls the chip. Just ignore it.

Hi Guys,

SOrry that was late night frustration, I didn't give many facts. It was an upgrade from an XP2000+ not a fresh install.

It does appear to be the right speed, although as per usual it hasn't made a blind bit of difference as yet although I haven't done anything that needs major processing.

I do alot of photographic processing on large images, and my machine grinds to a hault with some filters. RAM is what I need the most 512 doesn't seem enough, but a fast processor (or faster) can't hurt!

A bios flash will most likely resolve your problems.
