Win 2k/XP Backup
I have a couple of Backup files (using standard MS Tools) that will not open. Backup says thare 'contain unreadable data'
Are there any other tools for reading the contents of these backups? They come from a Win2k server and are quite important

Try downloading a time-bombed version of Veritas Backup Exec in order to see that will read the bkf files - watch out it's a bit of a bear. Unfortunately it's almost a 500Mb download
Alternatively a Google search throws up this

Cheers. Found the same software by googling but it seems my backup file is only 'half done'.
There's LOADS of data missing.
Somehow, the machine in question managed to corrupt both the main partition, data partition and the backup files.

Theres a lesson to be learned there...
If u dont trust MS enough that u need to backup their software... for god sake dont use their software for the backup!
(ive been caught out by this too!)

Went in to the see the person concerned today and explain the problem...
Them: "But thats 10 years worth of my work"
Me: "And you don't have ANY other copies"
Them: "No!"
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
luckily, the second backup drive we installed as the full 9gb backup.
