**** - Don't you just hate it when...
you get home & you find that one of your computers has died
It's late, I can't be ar$ed to start fault-finding now but it looks like either the mobo has died or the PSU has...
We seem to have had a power-cut of some description as my shuttle was off so I'm hoping its the PSU - fortunately I've a UPS on my Server...
It is an old machine but faithful so it'll mean get the screwdriver out in the morning
Luckily I have a spare unused PSU lurking around...

I've just been setting up a Linux dual-boot on my existing Windows 2k RAID 0 setup. The Linux was on another HDD, but Fedora cleverly over-wrote the MBR on the RAID array, rather than writing to the separate drive as it was supposed to. I know the trick works because I've done it before - but not this time. And the Windows recovery console refuses to restore the MBR: FIXMBR has no effect, and FIXBOOT just throws up an error. But I did manage to stop the Linux install booting as well, so now neither OS will work.
Good job I have three other computers...

My games machine is 2.4Ghz Shuttle with ATi 9800 etc. Old faithful is a P3 800 with a range of HDDs & bits which is totally sound as a workstation on W2K with 768Mb RAM
Let's see what the doctor finds

Tallking of the older boxes . . .
One of the machines still banging away at home is a Gateway Pentium Pro 200 tower with 196Mb and loads of SCSI disks, I bought it in November 1996 !
Basic services like DNS, WINS, FTP, print queues etc all running on NT4 ! I know it is well legacy but simple is best and I know my way round NT and AD seems such a sledgehammer !
It has been a great unit and only recently got promoted as the P75 which was spinning away in the loft only had an ISA card so only 10MBs
