Adware/Spyware
I have some adware/spyware on my pc and every programme that I find on the internet to remove it has a fee. Does anyone know of a free removal tool??

Adaware and Spybot are great - I've sung their praises many times, but Webroot Spysweeper is more comprehensive when checking - you can get a free trial version with the latest signature files. The best I've found at the moment is Microsoft's Antispyware prgram (rebranded from Giant - whom MS have bought) - officially it is in beta release (perfectly stable though) and it is free up until at least July of this year.

there are loads of free ones on the net.
Milamber, Anti Virus doesn't really stop them, and being sarcastic to someone asking for help is rude.
Spybot is your friend Also install Google Toolbar as it has a very good pop up blocker and use Symantec's free online Virus check to scan your machine with the latest updates. ALso to ech the above post - MS Antispyware is actually pretty good...and not invasive at all.
Where possible boot up to Safe Mode and scan your machine then - this way a lot of these programs/spyware/trojans etc will not have loaded and can be removed by Spybot/AdAware et al
Good luck

do a Google search for 'activescan' or 'trendmicro housecall' - either of the sites will scan your computer for free and remove the spyware - Just takes a while to perform the search .....

I couldn't find an effective FREE solution so I brought McAfee Spyware 2005 in PC World. 10 minutes after installing it had killed 32 Spyware.
Well worth £30 and it updates itself for free.......do it.

Try doing a google search for "spyware doctor" and download this then run it.
It is free and sorts just about all problems / infections out. Some sites will do the scan free and then ask for a fee to clear any problems, but if they do try another one. On most of them it is a free download. Daz

this should help no end. Trojan hunter seems much much more comprehensive than anything else I have tried

That's nice to hear Sub69. I work with the guys that produce that product and they're putting in a lot of effort. We're lucky in that we've been not only detecting threats for all these years but also taking pride in being able to remove them, that's so useful now.
Last night I sat here in LA manually removing spyware from a friends machine - I don't have access to my work machine and our software - and can tell you that the people producing these pains in the **** are doing a great job of making sure they stay on your machine.
The free Microsoft tool is very good, it detected most things, but it just couldn't handle the removal.

Jack - Can't you give me a money no object solution to 5 PC's constantly getting spyware, malware, viruses, etc etc etc. All are running Norton internet security 2005, which is **** imho. Before Norton, the all had ad-aware, spybot s&d, Zone alarm personal firewall and Trojan Hunter, and operated for 2 years without fault, but users didn't want any warning messages.
Arrgghhhh!!!!!!!!! Bought a wireless mouse yesterday - lost it 10 minutes ago.... just found it in the garage

Fastbloke - I can set you up a 5 user trial of our - McAfee - software if you like. I'm not back from holiday until the 18th though.
Tainton - the MS product monitors a handfull of areas used to install spyware, what doesn't do is sit in the background scanning for nasty code. You have to pay for that... so far.

I thought the MS product does sit in the background, scanning in real time?

It does scan in real time, but it's not scanning files it's just watching for certain behaviour. Somewhere around 30 different actions, guess which actions the writers won't be using. It's good, but it's not an on access scanner.
David, drop a mail to my work account jack_clark@ you know .com, I'm on holiday, back on the 18'ish.
