Remote access and shared folders
SLight Problem !
Got win server 2003 setup for remote access and allowing the correct ports to be forwarded via the router to the server (PPTN etc.).
I can't download the connection manager from the remote web workplace for some reason
- it says I can't as I'm using a shared or public computer, even though I unchecked the public computer checkbox and the computer is config'd to the network for when I'm in the office.
I created a manual connection using the win xp wizard and it connects to the network remotely.
How do I access the local shared folders remotely ?? Tried using network places and browsing and nothing
Thanks !

Sorry, never set this up but in order to resolve network names (NetBIOS), you need to be on the same network segment and capable of receiving broadcast packets.
NetBIOS packets can't be routed, so if you connect via a router or the server does routing, it won't forward these packets and you won't be able to see objects in the network neighbourhood.
You could use LMHOSTS to resolve known computer names, but the better method is to configure WINS.
Can you connect to a local share using the servers IP address?

Ozzy,
once connected I'm given an IP address and default gateway of 192.168.16.19, subnet 255.255.255.255 and the DNS server of my win server (192.168.16.2).
Tried pinging via hostname and internal iP address but no joy !
