Question Apple Superdrive - DVD Reports 4.28GB free

Is it normal that an Apple G5 with a Superdrive reports a new blank DVD-R as 4.28GB instead of 4.7GB?

My iBook with an external DVD burner and Toast reports the DVD-R as 4.7GB.

My iBook's internal combo drive and my external burner using Get Info both report the DVD-R as 4.36GB free, which matches Toast.

The G5's Superdrive always reports 4.28GB free. I have compared a few different DVD-Rs and they are all the same. Get Info on the Superdrive is also saying that about 10MB has been used even though the DVD-R is new and blank. It reports it as a "Mac OSX entended" disk. The iBook reports it as "Universal Format".

So what is the G5/Superdrive doing to report it is a different type of disk and using 10MB up?

Si.
