Default HL2 Update

The latest update, applied when you start Steam, removes the need to have the HL2 disc in your optical drive, amongst other things

don't see the point of the cd in drive feature when you had to go online to unlock the files and sign in to play anyway!

The secureROM disc check was causing issues for some users. Disc verification is a pain in the @rse if you have several games on your pc & they all require a disc in the drive to run

So I could buy HL2 load it on my PC and flog the game down the market to the games trader for £15 since I wont need the CD anymore? is that right?

They won't be able to download the needed files from Steam though, & there is nothing to say they won't reinstate the disc check when they sort out the issue with it

The CD key number is registered to your Steam account, so you wouldn't be able to flog the disc. Well, you could, but whoever bought it wouldn't be able to use it.

Make sure you have a balaclava on then ! And make sure it isn't some clued-up kid who buys it and asks for your Steam account details !!

Even worse, if you do flog it and someone else tries to register using the same key, this can be detected and both user accounts (including yours) can be locked / deleted.

Basically when you buy the dvd, you're not buying the game in the traditional sense. You're buying a steam license which allows you to play the game.
