Default USB port at the back of me laptop

Hi help again
Got a Fujitsu Siemens Laptop AMILO .
At the back its got two ports that u can plug in a usb leads. Whats happend is a small pice of plastic has broken off from inside each of the ports, now looks like about four gold coloured pointed things there. Laptop crahes if i try to plug in broad band lead
Went to shop ( laptop not 2 years old yet) chap says can't be fixed and i need another laptop. Seems alot for just 2 small pices of plastic

Is this Right, or can it be fixed?

Thanks

Rob

Buy a PCMCIA USB card as replacement, should set you back £20-30. The ones in the back were probably USB 1 anyways, get a card with USB 2. You could possibly "repair" (read : replace) the knackered internal ones by soldering on a couple of USB ports directly to the motherboard.

http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Name=pcmcia+usb

Thats what you need Rob, £12.93

Shove it into the side of your laptop and your away. No need to fiddle with the insides.

There should be a 'card slot' ( or 2) on one side of your laptop. It simply slots in there. No need to remove DVD or battery or anything else.

Will give you 2 USB2 ports.

That will indeed be it

Techncally it's called the PCMCIA slot....but often called card slot. The above link on aria seems to have got some mixed reviews. You could always try eBuyer as well. Whichever, I find Belkin and Netgear brands to be cheap but reliable
