Hello

Windows XP has an activation code, so I guess it is failing when you authenticate against Microsoft's servers?

The answer to your question is of course you have to have your own version.

Plus I wouldn't just upgrade from ME - I would format and start afresh.

Hello

I upgraded from ME and it was okay. You are just left with lots of rubbish in directories that you are never quite sure what happens if you delete. But that is true of any Windows installation that has been running for more than a few weeks.

It's certainly better, but not required to install from scratch.

if its just documents and stuff you can use the files and settings transfer wizzard on the windows xp disk which takes all your docs and settings into one compressed folder. Just put the xp disk into ME and select perform additional tasks
