Default Asus A7N8X motherboard - CPU limits

I've got the Asus board (non-deluxe).
The manual is a little vague as to the highest CPU I can install - I've got a XP2500 at the moment, but want to put in a higher one.

The manual say XP3000 or higher (!)

Any ideas how high I can go (using PC3200 Ram FWIW)

Thanks in advance,

Dan

PS Will an XP Barton work with this MOBO?

www.asus.com and look it up on the specs page. That'll tell you what it will support and the BIOS levels you need to be at.

Edit:

Just looked it up for you. It'll go to a.

Athlon XP 3200+(400 MHz FSB)(Model 10)(Barton)1.04 1004 Check PCB and BIOS versions before flashing BIOS!

There were 2 revisions of the A7N8X rev1 and rev2 (funnily enough)

The rev1 was a "complete pile of ****e"TM and would not run memory at 400FSB as the north bridge got too hot and other problems occured with memory errors.

The rev2 of the board was fine.

I believe it says on the board by the AGP slot which revision you have.

Have you considered overclocking the XP2500? Might be a good option? Otherwise I may be interested in buying it to upgrade my XP1700!

the multipiers only go as high as 14, so you will get 14x 200 on the xp3200 and thats the limit of the board, if your going to buy an xp3200 you would be more wise to buy a cheap amd64 cpu and board and overclock that
