Question PS2 Processor

Does anyone know if a PS2 Processor be upgraded from a 300ishMHz chip or whatever it is to something faster?

Or has anyone tried?

Shouldnt have thought it can be done. Changing clock speeds can send the bus timings right out the window. Also I believe the chip is a custom chip, pretty much like the E-motion engine that does the graphics.

thats a bit of a no no im afraid. While with PC's its a regular thing, with a console the spec is fixed. Would certainly crash if you tried to do it. Things being standard hepls game designers though as unlike pc's there is a standard spec to design the game too

PS2 must be about 8 years old now, PS3 must be next year surely.

Hello

Why would you want to do that? Even it were possible, the games wouldn't run properly.

Steve.

Mainly because of GTA: San Andreas which at times can run pretty slow, so maybe a faster CPU would help it run smoother.

I remember thinking to myself when the PS2 came out that it was out of date from day one because I already had a PC with a 350MHz PII in '99 and that was slow.

Thanks for replys.
