Wireless and XP losing connection
Friend has 4 PCs connected to a Netgear wireless router and broadband.
The PCs will every now and again (quite regularly) lose the wireless connection. Disabling and then enabling the wireless connection in the control panel sorts it out but any idea why it's losing the connection.
All computers have perfect line of sight to the router, one is sat under the router.
All computers are in the same room and run XP.
They used to be connected using DHCP but I've changed that to static IP addresses now.
The only possible thing I can think of is that another network appears and causes an issue but this is pretty unlikely.
How can I narrow down the problem, any error reporting facilities?
What network icons should there be, I remember something about a bridging connection....
Sorry - I'm a mac person and not experienced with XP
Short of wiring the damn things together I am out of ideas.
Help - Cheers Rich

Try this - it fixed the very similar problem I had when I upgraded my 802.11b wireless card to an 802.11g (Dell TrueMobile 1350 mini-PCI, for what it's worth).
Double click the little wireless network icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Click 'properties' and choose the Wireless Networks tab
Click the name of your network in the 'Available networks' box
Click 'Configure'
Click 'Authentication'
Ensure that 'Enable 802.1x...' box is cleared.
This fixed my problem completely - good luck

Same problem with my wireless dropping out.
However, if I turn off all the security features (+ Enable 802.1x) all is fine... except everyone can use my wireless internet access ...
Don't s'pose there is anyway round it being locked-enabled?

I've got a similar problem with a netgear dg834 wireless router & a linksys wireless G card. Connection keeps dropping & have to repair connection\reboot pc or reboot router to get it working.
what type of security setup have you got on yours? I've got the mac control list enabled, wpa-psk encryption. I am broadcasting the SSID as the pc wouldn't connect to the network after a reboot if the router wasn't broadcasting.
Am thinking of sticking in a 2nd wirelss pc with a different wireless card to see if i can narrow it down to the router or the netgear card.
Keep meaning to go onto netgear\linksys websites to see if anything is reported!

What frequency does the wireless router use?
My wireless connection was frequently being dropped because of my cordless phone, which used the same frequency - 2.4Ghz. Changing the channel on the router cured the problem.
