Anyone running an AMD 64?
Thinking of upgrading my pc to an AMD Athlon 64bit 3200 and using the Asus K8V-SE Deluxe motherboard.
just wondered what everyones opinion is of the 64bit processors?

I have just bought an XP64 3200 with a new MSI K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 250 mobo & some Crucial Ballistix PC4000 ram. I have just put the huge Thermalright XP-120 heatsink on it & will finish putting it together later in the week.
I was gonna get a Socket 939 based cpu & mobo but couldn't justify the price vs performance.

I thought it was pointless buying a 64-bit chip until MS release an operating system to utilise it.
From what (little) i know, the OS has been put back to the 2nd quarter of 2005 now and there is no plan to release a retail version, it's only to be sold with 'systems'
Bang for buck, doesn't the XP3200+ 400FSB Barton represent better value/performance?

I have a Shuttle with AMD 64 - it's fantastic. Everything is so much quicker.
Also, some of the A64's are cheaper than the top end XP chips! Don't worry about no real 64-bit OS from Mirco$oft...normal WinXP is fine on these chips. When the 64-bit version comes out, it will be even faster.

Well I have finally got my PC up & running again. I had to RMA the mobo & when I got a replacement I had to RMA that one too
I asked for refund & ordered a DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb which is superb & has a very nice layout.

OK, so I've been reading lost of stuff on this bbs trying to see if I am spending right.... I'm trying to get a machine on a budget for work - so games perfomance not important, I've been looking at the Octan 64 9550 with the 3200processor on an ASUS K8V MB and 512mb ram
http://www.carrerassc.co.uk/carrera_octan.asp
The one thing I really need to know is if the "ATI Radeon 9550 256MB Graphics" will be sufficient for my work us, will it support extended windows on XP at 1280*1024 res?
Anyone know as I'm a completely lost...
Also are Carrera any good? Anyone know... any horror stories?
