Default Job advice for Networking...

Hi all, I'm thinking of a career change - and am looking at doing a course/courses that would allow me to change from my current job in the Emergency Services into Computer Networking.

I already have a HND in Computing, what else do employers really look for? I've seen reference to N+, would this be worth doing? Should I look at converting the HND into a degree, or are there other more beneficial courses?
Anything I do will have to be part time as I'm going to work towards a new career while in my current job.

personally i think N+ and things like A+ are a waste of time.

Better off getting some experience with networking, ie learn subnetting, routing, tcp-ip, ospf etc..

Maybe do some cisco courses.

Nothing beats experiance, but I'd advise something like a Cisco CCNA. Yes I know it's a bit specialised dealing with Cisco stuff only, but gives you a good grounding in the basics etc.

Also can be done by just buying a book and reading it through, if you enjoy/get on with it then you know it's for you without shelling out too much! If you like it then you can progress etc (reading a book and passing an exam is not a great way to learn it, but it gives you a start).
