The licence for the software will probably state that it is to be installed on a single PC only.

Although it's for single PC use, there's nothig to stop you installing it on your PC.

The way Norton have worked since the 2004 release, you have 15 days to activate your product on-line before it disables itself.
During activation, the components of the machine it's intalled on are registered, this component registration generates a code that's cross-reference on the Symantec site.
If repeat activation with a noticeable change in PC components occurs 3 times, the serial number you input during installation is barred.
If there are no component changes, you have 5 activations before the serial is barred.

You can take advantage but don't push your luck.

I don't blame them for implementing the above. At the last count we - McAfee - had over 2,000,000 users in breach of licence. That's a lot of bandwidth that the paying users have to pay for.

It's not that expensive, about £40, small price to pay for piece of mind, considering how much you might have paid for the PC.

I'm not implying or condoning anything here. But for example, if you had five exactly identical PCs, hardware and software....would this system work?

i.e does it recognise component types and make/models or does it work on firmware codes etc.

Just a number of PCs that were bought at work from an small independent retailers all have the same software...and I seriously question it's legality, as we appear to missing a number of CDs. Norton, amongst other things is one of the applications installed.

Youre' only about £18 for Norton Anti-virus 2004, well worth paying for.

Ali

Yes, i believe you could intall it on 5 similar spec PC's without any hurdles.
If you didn't get the discs with your purchase, i't question why.
