xbox modding, which chip?
i had my xbox for about a year now so the warrenty is just about up, so i've decided to mod it. i would also like to use it for watching avi/divx/xvid files and playing my backed up games, i've heard here that the xbox makes a good dvd player. i've had a look on that bolder something site that sells chips but i'm a little confussed to which chip to buy and what else i need as there seem to be alot of "accesories", do i need any of the extra bit to make the chip work. i'm quike happy to use a soldering iron, though its been a few years
cheers mike

If its just 'normal' chip functionality you want then, go for one of the Xecuter range.
Either the v2.6 or the new v3 due to ship within the next couple of weeks.
All you need is the chip to do what you want, maybe a solderless header (xapter) or a header adapter to make the install a bit easier.

Is it worth upgrading?
The chap that did mine soldered a adapter thingy on mine which the chip just slots into so presumably it would be easy to replace?

I'm toying with the idea of using an Xbox to play Shoutcast MP3 streams from the internet, which I've heard is possible.
What would I need to do that, other than the Xbox itself? Presumably a chip of some sort, a (wireless, if poss) network connection and some 3rd party software?
Anyone done this with any success, or is it just one of those things that's a nice idea in theory but which doesn't really work in practise?

Take a look at www.shoutcast.com and, if you like the idea, visit www.zinf.org for a free player that's better than Winamp (IMHO) and which lets you save the streams in real time.

XBox Media Centre supports playback (and recording, but not sure if thats still in there) of Shoutcast streams. Works pretty well too
I listen to bassdrive.com through it.
