as above is there any seting i can put on my firewall(sygate personal pro) to stop(preferabaly) or slow down the upload rate, as it's pi$$ing me off when the upload rate is double that of the download rate and the download time is ridiculase(sp)

If you use PTC you can limit your uploads on a per/torrent basis to whatever you choose.

No probs. I know it ain't exactly what you wanted, but I've tried a few clients and love PTC. If you feel like sharing one torrent more than others you can give it more upload bandwidth, and limit the others. I think you can even set the upload limit to zero if you want so no-one can upload (not that you'd really want to).

 

What sort of broadband/cable connection do you have?

I have just recently upgraded to 1mb broadband and find that the maximum upload rate is around 28kbps (The same as 512kb) and obviously this then has an impact on the download rate.I seem to be getting anything between 20-70kbps on my downloads when in reality,that download figure could be as high as 128kbps on a 'normal' download...
I've been reading quite a bit of stuff last night on BT and firewalls in order to try and improve my download speeds but find it's really limited to how much you upload at the same time!! (Had a few things downloading last night with loads of peers/seeders and still could only manage 60 ish kbps tops downloads)
Anyone else had success with bit torrent? (I'm using Bit Tornado)

Nick i'm on 512k broadband. just on a large file i was downloading the download speed was down on normal(about 30-40kbps and a upload of about 10kbps) and on this file is was downloading at about 10-15kbps but the upload was 30kbps. does that make sence?

Yeah,it is annoying when you are uploading more than you are downloading but I guess that's bit torrent for you.Try doing a google for Bit Tornado and installing that.I have had better success using that client.Downloaded 2.6gb today in about 12 hours which ain't bad really...
When you are looking for torrents,pay attention to how many peers and seeders are listed.Obviously,the more of these the quicker your download (In theory lol)
