Default Cheap graphics card recommendation?

I'm currently running a Celeron 2.4ghz with a Geforce4 MX 440. Up to now it's been fine. I don't play that many FPS's any more but I've recently found that some demo's wont even work because the old Geforce card doesn't support DirectX 9.

Looking forward to playing Half life 2 when it comes out though so it's time I upgraded the card.

Any suggestions for a cheap directx 9 card?

Cheers
Richard.

LOL - Cheap and "run half life 2" aren't normally said in same sentence.

But it depends on what cheap is - you can get a Saphire Radeon 9800 pro for £108 and a 9600 XT 256 for about £70 - these will both run half life 2.

Plus you processor may also be lacking somewhat - you can get a P4 2.8 for under £80 to go straight into the celerons slot.

yes, I know I'm pushing it a bit. I 'ran' Doom 3 with my set-up, which was a nice little slide show lol

I guess I'll probably have to bite the bullet and get my CPU upgraded as well.

It might be worth waiting a few weeks and getting a Nvidia 6600 which will be around the £150 mark.
Probably about the cheapest of the current crop of latest cards.
