Default XP 3200 showing as XP2500+ - help!!

aaaaaaaarrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh

Got a DFI LANparty m/b KT400a

it says it will run a 400fsb cpu....

...so i've gone and bought a XP3200 400fsb (upgrade from my xp2600)

set the jumpers to 200Mhz (400fsb) and the thing won't start up......

change the jumpers back to 166 and it all boots fine, but shows as above.... it did say 3200 on the cpu......

any suggetions??

one suggestion so far from a friend it that a bios flash maybe inorder?? (i'm not keen on that...

But if the board says it supports it, then it should damn well support it!!!!!

Anyhelp would be greatly apreciated!!

phil

Looking here it says it only supports 266/333 MHz FSB? Or does 333+ mean 400?

There's a list of supported processors here and it looks like yours isn't one of them

Does the 400 in this case refer to the memory bus as opposed to the CPU bus?

some of the early adoptors were 333 cpu & 400 memory.

A bios flash isn't a big deal as long as you don't have a power cut.

Cheers Guys......

I've managed to set the multiplyer and the Mhz, so that the system recognises it as a XP 3000+.......

Potentially, could I 'overclock it to a XP 3200......(which is what it is)

But while i've been playing around with it..... why are ther jumpers that allow you to set the cpu to 200mhz (400fsb?)

It gives details of this in the manual (limited, granted)

Cheers again!!

Anyone let me know the setting for a XP 3200 (multiplyer/mhz) ta

Phil

Maybe it's a future proofed thing then. Might be that it'll be supported at a later date if they release an updated bios with full 200 MHz FSB support. It might currently have been released as a well it might work type feature.

You could always email their support people and see what sort of response you get. Might be worth asking them if there will be a bios upgrade to fully support your CPU as well.

Cheers for the replies guys........

Done some research and it doesn't (how misleading!!)

Gonna change it......

Going for the DFI Lanparty NF2 Ultra B....

Did want the 'non B version' as the B version has 4 SATA and only 2 IDE....

Oh well........ will have to up grade the HDD's or get a PCE IDE card...

Any suggestions on the PCI IDE cards??

Good, bad, ugly, do they work etc etc.....

Cheers

Phil

I just GOTTA have mu UV stuff!!!

Dabs.com do converters to enable standard IDE (PATA) drives to run on a SATA interface, these work very well and are made by Asus (check they run ok with ur new board).

Ive used them for well over a year in a RAID 0 array and there is no lag from the change over and do the job very well.... dont go the PCI route.
