USB KVM switches - Anyone used one?
We (well a colleague) is having a mare of a time trying to get our new Belkin Omniview Pro2 KVM 8 Port switch (Model F1DA108T) to work. Its works fine if you use PS/2 cables but if you use USB cables you can't boot into DOS. The new PC's we have bought (Dell Optiplex SX280's) don't have any PS/2 ports, just 8 USB ports
With the PC's connected via the USB (F3X1962-06 USB)KVM cables. There is no keyboard support during POST and therefore unable to access the BIOS. Once Windows has loaded normal functionality resumes.
We need to be able to access the Bios as each PC needs to boot up from Dos to run sysprep.
As I said, normal PS2 KVM cables allowed us to access the BIOS during POST.
We have tried with other PC's, Servers, HP PC's all, don't work
Any help would be great
Darren

Just a thought, but have a browse around the various BIOS menus and see if there is an enable "PnP in BIOS" or "USB in BIOS" option somewhere.
If the BIOS can't detect USB, then it (and DOS) is not going to find devices hanging off it. Windows will do it's own magic to find USB stuff.

Do the SX280s not have USB support in BIOS ? Very strange as most recent Dells do, but there again it isn't usually set as default in my experience.
Anyway, without it I don't know what you can do really.
Cheers

Thansk for the reply's guys. The SX280's do have a USB enabled BIOS. So plugging a mouse, keyboard directly into the PC works fine, however when you plug the PC's in via the KVM switchbox and then use the KVM cables they fail to reconise the cables exist and then report errors stating that no mouse or keyboard is connected
