Quite a topical post as I have been trying to reduce noise on my PC recently which was starting to P*** me off.
The case has 5 fans
Graphics card one
PSU two
CPU one
the CPU one was the noisiest one but I recently replaced it. See my recent thread about getting the crud off the CPU for details - I am very happy with this new fan.
The noisiest component is now the Graphics card fan. This can be replaced but is quite expensive - but I'm still going to do it.
Then the two 120mm fans could be quieter but I am getting fussy now. A couple of speed controlers at £1.49 each should sort these babies out.
Then it will be hush!

1x 120mm radiator
1x 120mm PSU
1x 80mm inlet
So 4. Loudest component is an old IBM 16 GB Deskstar. (But keep Linux on it and so cant be bothered to disconnect.

I have a total of 7 including a big Thermalright heatsink & fan on the CPU. This won't fit the next CPU I upgrade to so I am gonna go the watercooling route next time.

I only have 4 fans but the noise is driving me crazy, thinking of going for water cooling and this company http://www.wetandchillychips.co.uk looks quite interesting, any views.

blimey with all these fans im suprised they dont take off...
my 3.2 cpu is at 50-60c so need to cool it down. it only has one intake & one outtake space so can only do circulation. So i can have a pci card fanning upward towards the cpu then? shame i cant have one next to the cpu fanning it cos the agp is in the way...
atm ive just got the stock heatsink/fan
fan on the NB
fan on the graphics card
dont have an intake/outtake yet so will get one, is that enough how many c can i expect it to go down by?

If your CPU is too hot and too noisy, get the cooler I mentioned in the other thread. It only cost 8 quid
I think my CPU temperature monitor may be reading low but its not gone over 40C yet (3.0ghz oc'd to about 3350)
Cheers!

Is it just me or does anyone else think the whole PC 'modding' thing with all bells and whistles is sad? Yes I know fans are necessary, Ive got one 1 in mine, yes 1 its the way it came from the supplier and guess what...it works fine!

So u have no fans in the Power Supply unit
No fans on the case
No fans on the graphics card?
What is the spec of ur pc?
I got fed up watching TV with the PC on and not being able to hear the quiet bits.
So ive made mine quite by putting in the system above
oh, i dont need a fan on my graphics card, as it is a fans less 9800 Pro. However, i play alot of 3D games and the system does get too hot without the ventilation.

Theres also the people who reinstall windows daily!
ok, maybe not every day, ever so often - thats a bit obsessive!
i do it max once a year!
I mean, it works - so why bother?

My PC came with all the fans it has except one - which I only added because the crap case design had no air blowing across the hard disks and they kept overheating and shutting down. I don't even overclock anything - at the moment I'm actually underclocking it

2x80mm in the psu
1 on the GFX card
1x80mm intake, 1x80mm exhaust
1x120mm on the phase change condensor
The 120mm is actually the loudest even though I only run it at 9v

10 of 'em. I've built my own automatic fan controller so the fans are not running at full whack until the PC gets hot, got an LED bar graph so I know what the temp is inside the case. Keeps them all quiet until you start running doom 3 or any demanding game!!!
