New build PC but keyboard won't work?
Just cobbled together a new PC but when I fire it up the keyboard won't work.
Spec: Gigabyte K8VT800 Pro mobo with Athlon 64 3200+ 1.5 Gb DDR, SATA HDD and 256 graphics card. The system boots ok but the keyboard won't work so I can't get into setup. It's connected through a standard keyboard port although i have tried it through USB too (doesn't work obviously). Have tried another keyboard but still no joy.
Any ideas?

Might sound silly, but have you plugged it into the right hole in the back of the pc? The keyboard and mouse ports use the same type of connector, so it's easy to get them mixed up (I've done it before several times)...

as you power the machine up do the lights on the keyboard flash?
Does the BIOS report missing keyboard?
Have you tried a different PS2 native keyboard?
The USB keyboard won't work until it's turned on in the BIOS.

Was gonna say, mine won't let me past bios post screen without keyboard. And I have plugged keyboard into mouse before, and I been buidling PC's for 2 years I SHOULD know better but then computers and beer rarely mix.
