PIPEX - my web space
I have 50mb of web space available
how do go about using it / uploading images & files etc
my NTL homepage was easy to set up, this one seems confusing. BTW whilst im on the subject, since i had to stop NTL (moved home) i am unable to edit my homepage - ie remove or add images

chris, it's actually quite easy to do - Pipex aren't very forthcoming with the details though!!
Firstly, you'll need an FTP loader, such as Flash FXP, or WSFTP (just do a Google for them)
Secondly, you'll need your files
Thirdly, you'll need the details for your login/web address -
eg chris.d.dsl.pipex.com/website.html
effectively you can assign anything to your website address - your Pipex login details etc......
Hope this helps.

On XP you can create a "Network mapping" (IIRC) to your FTP space. You can then drag and drop from within Explorer. Long time since I did it but I think you do:
1. Start Windows Explorer
2. Right click on My Network Places
3. Select Map Network Drive
4. This brings up a dialog but you actully click the highlighted text about Connecting to a network server or something then follow the prompts.
Sorry for the wishy-washy detail but an't try it from this machine.
Cheers

IIRC you have to register for webspace first on the Pipex Support Pages.
To access Pipex by FTP try
ftp://abcd21@dslftp.dsl.pipex.com
(replace abcd21 with your username and password)

WSFTP is free
and really simple to use.
Also like Figment said, you can only access your NTL FTP space if logged in using an NTL connection. The same applies for most ISP FTP access sites. I know Nildram allow acess from anywhere

One of the files you uploaded needs to be an html page called index.htm (or index.html) - this is the first page homepage loaded when accessing your website

Chris, did you register for dslspace here (you'll have to enter your username and password to gain access to My Pipex, then scroll down about 20 lines to see My Service Features.)

dsl space is activated, did it ages ago
ive read their FAQ about index.HTML but that means nothing to me
So far i have a webpage that says i need an index page and i have just (i think) sorted an FTP page. when i had NTL i used to go to my FTP page, drag and drop an image in there. then go to my homepage and it would be there as a hyperlink.
this is really testing me

Yup. There is a way, through using commands in a special file called .htaccess to tell the server to show directory listings when there is no index page, but not sure if Pipex allow this.

I use my Pipex space to host pages for here - just upload them onto the basic home page, and paste the entire link into the address bar.... eg.
www.joe.bloggs.dsl.pipex.com/picture1.jpg
Hope this helps - like I said though - Pipex :- great ISP, but cr@ptech support for the DSL webspace. Everything else is good
Best of luck,
Dan

I *think* what Chris is trying to do is see a directory listing of all uploaded pics.
Pipex webspace is set by default to require index pages. I had a play last night and uploaded a .htaccess file with the command 'options +indexes' to my Pipex space - it returned an internal server error until I deleted the file (had to upload a blank .htaccess file as filenames starting with a period are hidden by the server)
