Ipaq.. want one but do I need one?
This is the problem, after seeing a mate's ipaq in his car the other night running some sat nav application or other and decided it looked a bit cool.
Now the problem is I may need some more justification than just sat nat which may be used very rarely! So the questions are these.... what else cool can they do which would appeal, how much would it cost to get up and running with sat nav, and what is the minimum spec ipaq (want to spend as little as possible really) for this sort of stuff.
Cheers
David

or get an O2 XDA II or Orange SPV E1000 and use it as a phone as well. Mine was free, but you can buy these for £ 175 now for the 02 phone.
I then paid £ 65 on a wired GPS received from Xpansys and use Tom Tom Navigator.
I also use a SD wi-fi card to access emails without having to boot up the computer.

The 2210 is great, use mine mostly for appt's, contacts, notes etc, but it can also handle MP3's (very loud as well with headphones), films, videos, games etc.
Sat nav kit is available for about £200

Try the following web sites for more information:
www.pocketgps.co.uk
www.totalpda.co.uk
I bought a iPAQ 2210 and Tomtom for £299 from P C World. I think they priced it wrong as everywhere sold out within a few days (end of May 2004). I had to wait four weeks to get the car kit. When I phoned a few other companies they refused to price match P C World, even though their web sites said they would match any price.
Very useful. The speed camera detection is very good as long as you have updated the "points of interest". Also "point of interest" for Shell (Optimax) garages.
For more "points of interest" go to:
www.poihandler.com
Even has "points of interest" for strip clubs and brothels, if you should want such a thing. My mate though the red light "points of interest" was where you picked up girls; actually traffic light cameras.
Edit: Someone I worked with bought a iPAQ 2210 and Tomtom 3 kit for £440 from www.pdaonline.co.uk.

Can anyone suggest where I might pick up a wireless SD card reasonably, just trying to price everything up and get a general idea

Can't imagine why you'd ever need SD and WiFi incorporated into one card, as the Compact Flash slot would be either GPS navigation in the car, or Wifi on your network at home/work. Better to go the cheaper option of standalone SD card (256 recommended) and then separate GPS and wireless on the Compact flash socket.
