Default Xbox Questions

Ok, I got an Xbox & it is chipped

How can I tell which modchip it is ?

I want to change to a bigger hard drive, but I dont think the mod chip supports the hard disk swap

Also can a Modchip be removed, and a newer one put in instead ?

Steve

Very possible if its a 1st gen chip.

Yep, just chop it out and remove any solder that is filling holes you need to get at.

Ok here is a pic of the modchip, I think it might be an aladdin universal

Info taken from Evo-x settings
Bios is EvoX D.6ef
Kernel is 1.00.4817.01
Hardware is 00000201 A3 B2

Basically I have created the formatting boot disk, swapped drives, booted up with the cd in, and I get the red & green flashing lights

If I put the original hard drive back it works fine

Can't see the pic Steve ?

Did you set the new HDD to master ?

So it boots your Formatting CD with the original HDD drive fitted ?

Ive ran a Bios Checker now, and it gives the following info

Bios on chip
EvoX D6 (Eject Fix)

Chip Type
LPC Based (SST 49LF020)

I didnt try booting the formatting cd with the original hdd fitted, just in case it decided to format it

You'll need to test your CD (CD-RW I assume?) in your xbox, it won't format the disc unless you ask it to. If it doesn't boot then that explains your FRAG.

SST 49LF020 is the same as used on the Matrix chip that I use, but it could also be a cheapmod.

Ty booting the CD with your OEM HDD and see what happens
