Default pagefile.sys problem (winxp)

Since cloning (norton ghost2003) a scsi hard disk onto an IDE hard disk I've been getting a virtual memory problem in the way of a dialogue box, every time WinXP starts the windows desktop

Virtual memory settings are set to "custom" 384 - 1024

I've tried setting to "no pagefile" , reboot - but get same error

I've tried setting back to "custom" , reboot - but get same error

I'm now trying to actually locate the pagefile on the hard-disk so I can delete it from the recovery console but its nowhere to be found!

Anyone offer any help on this ?

Could it be the scsi drive had 2 partitions ,and the pagefile was located on the d: partition ? I only cloned the primary (c partition. In which case where in the registry does it specificy WHERE the pagefile is located - so I can change it back to C:

Default location is the root of C: drive. It is a hidden system file, so not visible unless you have changed view options to show system/hidden files

I always take off "hide operating system files" etc and it STILL can't find it.

Perhaps its was on another partition on the original hard disk it came from ?

Don't know of a way of moving the pagefile on XP. IIRC on earlier versions the equivalent swapfile was in the root of the C: drive if set up for one user / all users same settings and in C:\Windows\Profile\[username] for those with multi-user profiles.

do you know where in the registry is define's the location of the pagefile ?

eg. in control panel > system > performance > advanced where you setup virtual memory, I believe you can specifiy a partition (hdisk) where you want the pagefile

probably what I need to do is find where in the registry its pointing too and change it

The pagefile is removed if set to 0 and rebooted, altho this has been tried and not fixed the problem
