Question IIS On XP Home

Anyone on here succesfully managed to acheive such a thing. I am aware of the old hack that Google throws up but without a copy of Windows 2000 Pro (IIRC?) i'm stuck.

I have XP Pro on my desktop but have my laptop set up nicely on Home and don't want to fix what isn't broken... Really don't want to go back to Apache either!

Apache rules!

Even better on a Sun/Unix Platform though

You can't use the full IIS on XP Home. It'll only let you use a cut down version which only allows 5 (I think) concurrent connections. Ok for developing, but not for using as a web server...

Yeah, i just want it set up for developing. Nothing against Apache, it was faultless on my old desktop on 98se. I'd just prefer to keep things in-house and simple if you know what i mean?

I'll check my mail Tues TopBanana, when i get home.

Hello

On a similiar note, is there a way to increase the number of simultaneous connections nad host multiple domains with XP Professional? It's only 10 connections, and I need XP SErver (Which I didn't think existed) to have more than that?

Thanks,

Steve.

Steve,

XP Server doesn't exist. You need either Windows 2000 or 2003 Server.

I would guess they nobbled it in the kernel as Google didn't turn up any registry hacks or similar. They do the same with the physical CPU limits (ie. XP Home = 1 CPU, XP Pro = 2 CPU...)

On the topic of ASP, there is an ASP extension to Apache but you have to code in Perl. http://www.apache-asp.org

You could always get hold of a copy of VirtualPC for Windows and set-up a development installation alongside WinXP Home. There's a 45 day free trial available at the Microsoft VPC web site.

Cheers,
Alex
