Desktop icon won't go away!
I keep deleting an desktop icon with the symbol "~" and it keeps re-appearing.
Adaware and Spybot haven't got rid of it and I've searched the PC for this file name, deleted them all and it still comes back.
Any idea's?
Dan

Try rightclicking on it and see where the shortcut points to. Then close all running applications and look at the processes list in task manager for anything odd. If it still doesnt show anything obvious perhaps reboot using F5 (I think) which will step you thru the windows startup again looking for anything suspicious.

The file location is below, 198kb in size.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop
Each user of the PC has this icon on their desktop.
I will try booting, using F5, but not sure if I would know enough to know what was suspicious and what wasn't.
Anyone know how to use F5 on a Logitech navigator keyboard? Certainly pressing it, with no other keystroke doesn't work. Why do we need more than the old 102 key keyboard!!??

Nah, it's a known bug in OE or Address Book or something. I think if you try opening it in notepad or something you'll see all your contacts in there.
Have a look on MS website for details, it's something to do with one of the above making a backup of the contact list when a change is made but it's fooked and you end up with the file on the desktop with a tilda as the filename instead.
