First PC ???
A friend of mine has tasked me with the mission of finding her the best Pc for here money she is a first time buyer so not looking for mega spec machine but one that will last the usual 6 months before becoming outdated and good deals on just now or good web sites she has a budget of about £500 .
Big W (Woolworths) normally have a boxed Pc with digi camera and the likes for that much but is there any better deals on the go that you guys and girls know of ??

Try evesham.com or mesh.com for the best spec PC's. I wouldn't touch high street companies like PC world or Woolies as they're components will be rubbish. Once went into PC world and was told my one of the salesmen that a Geforce FX card was the best money could buy. Load of b8llocks they talk. So i asked him to play the PC game Far Cry running at 2000 res. He then back tracked. LOL

i guess your friend isnt into games so graphics card is irrelevant.
Normally its games that make a pc obsolete.
Otherwise it can last years
I read this package was recommended today

I'll second mesh for the first timer, although you need to pay extra for the windows discs IIRC.
Dell are good too but tend to be a bit pricier.

As an alternative, especially for a beginner you cannot beat the eMac.
http://www.apple.com/uk/emac/
Very good spec and the software that comes with it is exceptional, easy to use DVD creation, Music making and digital camera/video integration.

I know I will probably get flamed for this but for a first timer this is the best package, and it will easily outlast the others.

What about this one from PC World? £329 and a good spec, We've got one and it's excellent for what we want which is surfing, storing/editing/writing of digital pics and the odd bit of word processing. We got a printer/scanner/copier to go with it all for £50. I work on the theory that in a years time I'll be wanting a new machine anyway so longevity isn't really an issue, especially as anything you buy now will be out of date in six months anyway
