Default Help to remove a virus

Last week Norton antivirus pops up and says a virus has infected the pc and it could not stop it.Shortly afterwards the pc rebooted itself and everything appeared fine.I ran Spybot, adaware and norton scan and got rid of a few things.I noticed that internet explorer sets the homepage at greatbiz search engine(mainly **** links)I can change it but next time I use it greatbiz is back.
So I am pretty sure something is still on there. Now when I start up it takes longer for everything to load up and sometimes it will not open up properly at all and sit there with all the icons an my wallpaper showing but not allow me to do anything.
Is there anything else I can do to sort it out or will I have to take it to a pc shop to get fixed???
Thanks

Stuart

Update your Antivirus and these two Spybot, adaware and try again.

Try http://www.pandasoftware.com (look on the left hand side of the window for active scan) for an online scan of your PC... surprisingly it found viruses that our corporate version of Sophos anti virus missed

Antivirus was updated and I made sure I used the latest spybot and adaware.
Nothing is getting rid of the greatbiz homepage or sorting out the booting up problem.
Will give the pandasoftware a go tonight...
Anyone buy there pc from Currys??I know we got the cover for repairs but not sure if they cover to fix a virus and are they any good at sorting out problems??

typically support lines will not cover virus / software problems unless it is a premium rate.

I had a problem with a friends PC the other evening. The software was out-of-date, but it wouldn't let me run the McAfee Superdat to update the virus definitions. When you ran the update it just closed it down, so I'm pretty sure some viruses will attempt to disable any anti-virus software.

I had to remove the hard disk and install it in a protected PC and clean the drive the way. It was the W32/Bagle virus on this particular machine.

In those cases you should use Stinger from the AVERT tools section. http://vil.nai.com/vil/averttools.asp

Or

Delete manually using the relevant instructions (eg Bagle.b) http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_101030.htm

Well I have tried pandasoftware and the ravantivirus, both found viruses but I still have the problem of the pc not booting up properly first time and I can`t get rid of this sodding search engine on internet explorer..
In the process of running the stinger check....
If this does not work is it worth unistalling internet explorer and downloading it again to get rid of this search engine?

do a search for browser hijackers,

it sounds like you have cws hijacker,

is a bast!!!!!

merijin .org have loads of info on its nastiness

u need to download and run CWS shredder it clears the registry tweaks that cws makes to keep its self active
