Question Broadband ISP recommendations please!

I've had my brand new pc connected to my brand new phone line for all of 2 minutes on a 56k modem and am already pulling my hair out so please help me before I go bald

I've used Pipex in the past (thanks Nick!) who were very good and have heard good things about Nildram but is there anyone else I should be considering?

Cheers

Sal

Unhappy

Just ran a cable check and no, unfortunately it's not available here. Looking around it seems that unless you pay about £30 a month you are very restricted on the amount of data you can download, BT charge £19.99 for 512k but restrict data to 1GB a month, Wanadoo £17.99 for 512k but a 2GB restriction a month. Is it me or is Broadband stupidly expensive here? I feel I'm about to be ripped off...

Cable gets my vote if you can get it. I was gonna get ADSL but the free 50% increase swung it for me

I used plusnet as my ADSL provider.

Everything you need is acccessible via online pages.
Only been down once, when I dialed in they fixed it for me.
( Free dialup as well from other places through them.)

I would recommend PlusNet.

The 'lite' package (£14.99) has a download limit on it, but the 'Home Surf' (£18.99) and 'Home' (£21.99) packages do not (AFAIK))

I'm just waiting on my connection to be set up via Wannadoo (freeserve). I was with Virgin which although recently their service had improved their actual customer service is a complete shambles and they currently owe me £75 which I am about to take further action upon.

I've gone for the 2GB limited DL for 17.99 with Wannadoo which I doubt I'll be exceeding but who knows.

I have recently asked this question See here

In the end I went for Pipex Solo 500 (512k) at £23 per month and everything else is free (modem, connection etc.), no download limits. The connection was all setup and working within a week of placing my order and I have had no issues at all.

Smile

After much searching and reading of small print we've gone for Pipex Xtreme Solo 500 too, £23.44 a month for 512k unlimited downloads and free equipment/activation. We looked at Wanadoo too which seemed good for £17.99 a month but I just know I'd exceed their 2GB monthly limit then I'd be in trouble

I use Pipex Xtreme Solo 1000. Mega-fast 1024kbps downloads (which means 100Kb+/s) and I pay $34 a month I think (no limit). Careful of the cheap deals (ie, watch out for limits). Even if you're happy to accept a limit - how do you know you've reached it?

I also went for Pipex - superb so far - and they are excellent at keeping yr email addresses private - my Dad has BT and although the speed is good he has had spam emails since day one.

My father in law has Tiscali....they are best left well alone. Useless, slow and nobody to help if you need it.
