Am due for a major upgrade, have about 200 quid or thereabouts to get new motherboard and CPU but am left trawling site after site baffled by the awesome choices.
What I'm after is something that'll run shiny new games nicely (I have a nice little Geforce 4 ti4600 128MB already) and also be able to handle video editing apps and imaging software quickly too as well as my duel screen setup. At the moment I'm crawling along with a 1.1Ghz AMD on an Asus board but was looking at 2.8 and 3Ghz Pentium 4's.
My main priority is speed. I'm just damn tired of waiting for stuff.

Has anyone got any suggestions for a decent CPU and Motherboard combo?

What memory have you already got? I just managed to get a A64 3200 + an Epox K8T800 motherboard for less than £200 by trawling ebay.

am selling my sdram to get some shiny new DDR400. Dont fancy ebay as theres no guarentees. Need new stuff. Is that combo any good?

am confused with these new 64 bit processors. Athalon 64 3200 is only 2Ghz. Does CPU speed matter anymore or would I be better gettin a 2.8Ghz Pentium?
