scratched game disc help
Hi
Calamity struck on Saturday when my young son managed to scratch his GC game disc of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to the point of the GC not reading it anymore
Have called Konami who want £17 for replacing it but have suggested that I could get it polished out - anyone know a good mail order service for this or any other suggestions?
Otherwise, I guess I'll have to fork out the £17
cheers
Neil

If its the plastic underside of the disc and the scratch isn't too deep, try rubbing some Brasso on it. Brasso is superb at removing small scratches from clear plastics.

my local hi-fi shop prevented me from buying theri very expensive cd cleaning kit by using the magic words - "Pledge or Mr Sheen plus duster" - always works for me
There second piece of advice on wanting sound damping material for speakers was "blue tack" LOL

be VERY careful with Brasso, as I found out to my cost with my Leon Import DVD
The back surface ended up looking like a swirly-thing from Swirlshire and that was with next-to-no pressure.

You have to give it plenty of welly I made my XBox jewel clear using Brasso, takes off the paint and removes any scratches a treat But you are right, some DVD's are made of thin stuff, so go easy.

I had this problem with my satnav disk for my car. If you have Nero or similar, play the disk as slow as possible onto your hard drive, then burn it out to another disk. It worked for me on a badly scratched disk that had been rattling round the door bins for about a month.
Good luck,
Andy
