Jumpers on CD rom / Hard drives

Hey up,
Quick question, is the jumper layout (Master Slave etc) always the same on CD DVD Rom/ HardDrives, or does it change from manufacture to manufacture?

Jumper setting vary between manufacturers. Usually tells you on the CD/DVD drive or Hard Drive what the jumper pin positions should be.
